Michigan: Several Sticks of Dynamite Discovered in Residence

On 12 January 2025, at approximately 1545 hours local time, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded after a homeowner discovered a container containing dynamite at a residence on the 10000 block of Gorsline Road in Battle Creek. The homeowner found the container while cleaning out the basement of the residence. The Battle Creek Police Department bomb squad responded to assist and confirmed there were seven to 10 sticks of dynamite in the container. The bomb squad removed the dynamite from the residence and conducted render safe procedures.

California: Exploding Target Material Found in Vehicle at School, 1 Arrested

On 15 January 2025, at approximately 1030 hours local time, a Eureka High School official notified the Eureka Police Department after they found suspected exploding target material on a dashboard of a student’s vehicle parked near the high school on Del Norte Street in Eureka. Police responded and confirmed that the item was exploding target material and called the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team to assist. A search warrant was obtained, and authorities removed the exploding target material.

California: BMM Discovered at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 10 January 2025, at approximately 0700 hours local time, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, Napa Police Department, Napa Special Investigative Bureau, and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad executed a search warrant at a residence on the 300 block of Coombs Street in Napa and discovered unspecified bomb-making material (BMM). Authorities initiated an investigation after the 31-year-old male suspect allegedly purchased chemicals “known to be used for making destructive devices.” No additional details regarding the BMM were released.

Portugal: IID Thrown at Venezuelan Consulate

On 11 January 2025, at approximately 2200 hours local time, the Lisbon Metropolitan Public Security Police Command (LMPSPC) responded to the Venezuelan Consulate General building in Lisbon following reports of an unknown suspect throwing an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, at a wall of the building. The LMPSPC set up a perimeter, called the fire department, and referred the case to Portuguese judicial police. A shutter sustained minor damage from the flames, and no injuries were reported.

Netherlands: Explosive Device Functioned at Hospital Entrance, 3 Injured

On 12 January 2025, at approximately 0200 hours local time, an unspecified explosive device was functioned at the Red Cross hospital in Beverwijk. The device ignited a fire near the hospital’s supplier entrance, causing significant damage. No additional device details were provided. A local fire department extinguished the blaze. Canada: IID Thrown at Church

On 9 January 2025, at approximately 0435 hours local time, Calgary Police Service (CPS), Calgary Fire Department, and the CPS arson unit responded following a report of a fire at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on the 10900 block of 24th Street Southwest in Calgary. At the scene, officers discovered an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, that had been thrown through a window of the building, igniting a fire. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Pennsylvania: IED Functioned During Dispute at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 16 December 2024, Sandy Township Police Department officers responded to a residence on Eastern Avenue in DuBois after reports of a dispute between a 29-year-old male suspect and another man, who told responding officers that the suspect was setting off explosives and building bombs. Behind the home, officers found remnants of a 55-gallon barrel that had been used as part of an IED. The suspect reportedly described making and initiating the device by filling the barrel with propane and igniting it using a spark from an electric fly swatter.

Maryland: Explosive Device Functioned Outside Business, BMM Found in Suspect’s Home

On 11 December 2024, at approximately 1430 hours local time, Anne Arundel County Fire Department crews, Anne Arundel County Police Department officers, and ATF agents responded to a business on the 700 block of East Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie for a report of an explosion outside the business. At the scene, investigators discovered scorch marks on the building, which they determined were consistent with the functioning of an explosive device. Surveillance camera footage showed a suspect drive up to the business and emplace an explosive device against the building before it functioned.

Idaho: Non-Functional IED Removed from Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 15 December 2024, at approximately 0157 hours local time, Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers conducted a traffic stop near Heyburn Avenue and Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls. While inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered what was described as a “suspicious black tube” and a firearm. ISP called the Twin Falls Police Department Bomb Squad for assistance. Bomb technicians determined that the device was an incomplete IED containing buckshot and explosive powder and removed it from the scene.

On 4 December 2024, at approximately 2252 hours local time, San Luis Obispo Police Department officers responded to a house on the 1700 block of Corralitos Avenue in San Luis Obispo following a report of an individual allegedly making threats. At the scene, officers found a small fire burning in the street and observed a vehicle leaving the immediate area.
