New Jersey: Man Injured by IED

On 13 July 2024, at approximately 0400 hours local time, New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad technicians and first responders from Hillsborough and neighboring towns responded to a home on 3 Bridges Road in Neshanic Station after reports of an explosion. Authorities determined the incident was an unintentional detonation caused by a man mixing explosive precursor chemicals while assembling IEDs described as homemade pyrotechnics. The man received second-degree burns but refused medical attention. No further information was released.

Nevada: Man Throws IID into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home, 1 Arrested

On 5 July 2024, at approximately 2246 hours local time, local police received a report that a 35-year-old man had lit his shirt on fire and thrown it into the Las Vegas home of his former girlfriend while she was inside with her three children. The fire was reportedly initiated by an improvised incendiary device (IID) described as a Molotov cocktail. A responding officer extinguished a kitchen fire. According to authorities, the suspect had been sending death threats and trespassing onto the woman’s property.

Maryland: Flashbang Grenade Discovered at Shooting Suspect’s Home, 1 Arrested

On 5 July 2024, at approximately 0630 hours local time, Prince George’s County Police Department (PGCPD) officers responded to a shooting at a business on the 5100 block of Auth Road in Camp Springs. The victim identified a suspect and alleged the suspect shot at him while attempting to steal an item. PGCPD Gun Crimes Unit detectives identified a 23-year-old male suspect and obtained a search warrant for his residence.

Maine: IEDs and BMM Discovered in Home Following Bomb Threat, 1 Arrested

On 15 July 2024, at approximately 0100 hours local time, Old Town Police Department officers were approached by a man who reported that a man had assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to blow up their house. Old Town Police Department officers responded to a residence on Call Road in Milford, where they encountered the suspect, who allegedly made the threats carrying a knife and a bag of other weapons. The man complied with officers’ instructions and surrendered his weapons.

Kentucky: IID Device Functioned in Home Prior to Police Chase, 5 Injured, 1 Arrested

On 12 July 2024, at approximately 0718 hours local time, McCracken County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a home on Almyra Avenue in Paducah for a report of a house fire. At the scene, deputies learned that the fire had been caused deliberately by an improvised incendiary device (IID) after a 24-year-old man attacked a woman in the home and fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. The woman and several other people who were inside the home escaped without injuries, but a dog was killed in the fire.

Idaho: IED Found in Park

On 17 July 2024, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Kootenai Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Corbin Park in Post Falls for a reported discovery of an explosive device. Deputies sent photos of the device to the Spokane Police Department (SPD) Explosives Disposal Unit, which responded to the scene to assist. SPD bomb technicians determined that the device was likely an IED described as a homemade pyrotechnic and rendered it safe. No further device details have been released. An investigation is ongoing.

Connecticut: IED Found Near Public Works Facility

On 9 July 2024, at approximately 0830 hours local time, an employee of the Ansonia Public Works facility discovered an IED resembling a hand grenade wrapped in electrical tape near the facility entrance. The Ansonia Police Department, Connecticut State Police and State Police Bomb Squad, and local fire department all responded to assist. The IED was rendered safe at the scene without incident. The investigation is ongoing.

California: Explosive Device and BMM Discovered in Home Following Bomb Threat, 1 Arrested

On 16 July 2024, at approximately 1630 hours local time, Arden-Dimick Library on the 800 block of Watt Avenue in Sacramento was evacuated after a man told employees he had a bomb. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies and bomb squad technicians responded to the scene, investigated a suspicious item near the library door described as a backpack, and determined there was no threat. SCSO deputies arrested the 54-year-old male suspect who made the threat and also had a felony warrant for parole violation.

Mexico: 4 IEDS and BMM Found 2 Days After IEDs Thrown into Home, 1 Arrested

On 10 July 2024, at approximately 1038 hours local time, Municipal Police officers, Mexican Army personnel, National Guard personnel, Civil Protection personnel, and local firefighters responded to a home in the Villas de San Juan neighborhood in León, Guanajuato State, for a report of explosive devices thrown into a home. Authorities responded after receiving anonymous tips about the incident and discovered the remnants of two functioned IEDs at the residence. No one was injured in the attack, although a gate at the home sustained damage.

Ireland: IIDs Thrown During Anti-Immigration Protests, 19 Arrested, 1 Injured

On 15 July 2024, approximately 200 anti-immigration protestors gathered outside a former paint factory in the Dublin suburb of Coolock earmarked to become housing for asylum seekers. At some point during the gathering, protestors began to throw improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) described as petrol bombs and bricks at Garda riot police officers and construction equipment. At least three police vehicles were damaged
