Florida: Murder Suspect Faces Additional Charges after 71 Explosives Found in Home

On 14 August 2025, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (M-DSO) deputies responded to a 63-year-old male suspect’s house in Homestead.  M-DSO deputies with the bomb squad and arson units, federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Homeland Security, and a Miami-Dade Fire Department investigator also responded.  The suspect’s son allegedly reported his father had kept 71 PVC cylinder pipe-style explosives and firearms in several military grade ammunition boxes labeled “explosives” or “smoke” in the house.

Texas: Pipe Bomb Found in Apartment Complex

On 30 September 2025, a maintenance worker discovered a live pipe bomb at a Northwest Side apartment complex in San Antonio, and brought it to the apartment office, where it was left outside. Police were called out at approximately 0900 hours, and they called in the bomb squad. The bomb squad confirmed the pipe bomb was live, made the device safe for transport, and removed it from the area where it will be destroyed. Police evacuated residents from the nearby buildings and shut down an access road near Interstate 10.

Colorado: Response to Fraud Case Leads to Discovery of Live Pipe Bomb, Three Arrested

On 28 September 2025, at approximately 0200 hours, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) responded to an adult gaming facility in Pueblo for a counterfeit bill report. During the investigation, officers discovered one suspect had an outstanding warrant. A subsequent search of the suspects' vehicle uncovered a live homemade pipe bomb, drugs, guns, and fraudulent credit cards. The Pueblo Metro Bomb Team safely removed the explosive device. Three suspects, ages 28, 33, and 37, were arrested.

Illinois: Protest at ICE Facility Involves Potential Explosive Device

Michigan: Mass Shooting Leads to Discovery of Four IEDs, Suspect Dead

On 28 September 2025, at approximately 1025 hours, a mass shooting that uncovered explosive devices occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Grand Blanc. A 40-year-old suspect opened fire and set the church ablaze. Four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were confirmed inside the suspected shooter's vehicle. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reported the IEDs were constructed from consumer-grade fireworks and smoke canisters.

Kentucky: WWII-Era Ammunition Discovered in Shed

On 25 September 2025, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office in Brandenburg received a report of a suspicious object after a resident rediscovered a rusted, unidentifiable piece of metal while cleaning their shed. The item was originally discovered several months ago with a metal detector. The resident uploaded a photo of the object to an Artificial Intelligence application, whose response raised concerns and prompted a call to law enforcement.

Maine: Explosive Devices Found during Traffic Stop, One Arrested

On 22 September 2025 shortly after midnight, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office discovered explosive devices in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Main Street in Newcastle.  The Maine State Police Bomb Squad and the Office of State Fire Marshal's were called to the scene to examine the device, which was secured and removed for further evaluation, to include a laboratory analysis.  On 24 September 2025, a 43-year-old suspect, who had been a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested and will be charged with one count of criminal use of explosives.

Ohio: Suspicious Vehicle Investigation at Mall Complex Ends with Homemade Explosives and Arrest

On 18 September 2025, police in Niles, Ohio, conducted an investigative stop on a vehicle that appeared out of place. In the vehicle, officers discovered homemade explosives, guns and ammunition. During questioning, the suspect mentioned a second car abandoned near the Eastwood Mall Complex. Officers notified Howland Police and inspected the second vehicle, bringing in a bomb-sniffing dog that detected a possible bomb odor.

Washington: IED Discovery and Controlled Detonation Near Tonasket High School

On 18 September 2025, at approximately 1330 hours, a woman walking near Tonasket High School in Tonasket discovered a suspicious device on a nearby path and reported it to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office. The Spokane Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene and confirmed that the object was an improvised explosive device (IED) containing black powder. The bomb squad conducted a controlled detonation of the device.
