On 17 May 2023, judicial police and an intelligence unit responded to Higabra, a village in the Municipality of Buritica, in western Antioquia, after an IED described as a “cylinder bomb” functioned in a gold mine tunnel, killing a miner and a security guard, and injuring 14 others, including four security guards. No further details about the explosives have been released. A bomb squad and Basque police force responded to assist.
