On 28 February 2024, Kennewick Police Department officers searched a residence on South Harrison Street after receiving a report that a Southridge High School student was in possession of an explosive device. Authorities discovered the explosive device, described as a pipe bomb, and Richland City Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and rendered the device safe. The juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of an explosive device and possession or manufacturing of an incendiary device.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the site and removed all explosives from the residence.
