Alabama: IEDs Discovered Inside Residence

On 28 March 2019 at approximately 2040 hours local time, Dale County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputies responded to reports of two IEDs discovered inside a residence in Echo. According to the DCSO Chief, the IEDs were described as pipe bombs. Dothan Police Department’s Bomb Squad rendered safe the devices. There was no further information on the devices and the investigation is ongoing.

Somalia: At Least 16 Civilians Killed, 17 Wounded in VBIED Attack

On 28 March 2019, a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED) detonated outside a restaurant in Mogadishu, killing 16 people and injuring 17 others. According to authorities, the attack took place outside a restaurant crowded with diners. The explosion destroyed two restaurants and cars parked in the area. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack as the latest in a string of attacks in the Somali capital. There is no further information on the device and the investigation is ongoing.

China: Three Injured, Suspect Dead in Police Station IED Attack

On 28 March 2019 at approximately 1350 hours local time, a suspect set fire to Shenyang Public Security Bureau’s (SPSB) traffic police department and then detonated an IED. The attack killed the suspect and injured two police officers and one civilian. According to SPSB, the suspect used gunpowder to detonate the IED.

California: Parolee Arrested with Associated Components

On 25 March 2019, Sacramento County Park Rangers conducted a vehicle search near River Bend Park and found unidentified precursor materials described as material possibly used to make pipe bombs. The vehicle was occupied by a 51-year-old male parolee who had not paid for parking. The Sacramento County Bomb Squad removed and disposed of the material. The suspect was arrested.
