On 17 January 2024, Gordon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Pleasant Hill Road in Calhoun after receiving a report of a suspicious package. Floyd County Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and examined the device, described as an improvised incendiary device (IID), before rendering it safe. No further device details were provided. On 18 January, deputies arrested a male suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

On the night of 10 January 2024, the Washington Police Department and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Washington shopping center for a wellness check on a 40-year-old man slumped over in his vehicle in the parking lot. While inspecting the man’s vehicle, authorities found IEDs, methamphetamines, and an unspecified weapon.

North Carolina: Shopping Center Evacuated After Discovery of IEDs in Vehicle

On the night of 10 January 2024, the Washington Police Department and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Washington shopping center for a wellness check on a man slumped over in his vehicle in the parking lot. While inspecting the individual’s vehicle, authorities found IEDs, described as “homemade military-grade grenades with small ball bearings inside,” methamphetamines, and an unspecified weapon. The Cherry Point Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was called in to assist.

Florida: Pyrotechnic Device, BMM Found in Home, 1 Arrested

On 1 January 2024, Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) deputies responded to a home on Bellezza Way in Fort Myers after receiving a call from the resident that his neighbor had overdosed in his driveway. During a search of the caller’s residence, deputies discovered a pyrotechnic device described as a railroad torpedo and bomb-making material (BMM), including hand grenade bodies, mercury switches, and two brown rectangular pieces of suspected explosives labeled "Dangerous Explosive.” The LCSO Bomb Squad responded to assist and removed the BMM from the scene.

Florida: IED Discovered Near Mailbox

TRIPwire, 5 June 2023 On 3 June 2023, at approximately 1245 hours local time, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a residence in Crystal River after an IED was discovered near the mailbox at the end of a driveway. No further device details have been released. The CCSO Bomb Squad responded to assist and confirmed the IED was viable. Bomb technicians used a robot to render the device safe and removed it from the scene for offsite disposal. The incident remains under investigation.
