Illinois: Undercover Investigation Leads to Large Improvised Explosive Device Cache

On 7 August 2025, Lake County Sheriff's detectives discovered a large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during an undercover sting operation involving 71 stolen stoves and dryers. The Waukegan Bomb Squad was requested to remove and dispose of the IEDs. The suspect faces multiple charges including Theft Over $10,000 (Class 2 felony), Online Sale of Stolen Goods (Class 2 felony), and Unlawful Possession of Explosives (Class 3 felony). No information regarding the IEDs was released.

Colorado: Incendiary Device Found During Traffic Stop

On 7 August 2025, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) conducted a traffic stop on North Carefree Circle and found a suspected incendiary device inside the vehicle.  The CSPD Regional Explosives Unit was requested to assist. According to a post made by CSPD’s K9 Unit on Facebook, officers located a “suspicious object” taped to a bottle, and it was determined that “the object was an incendiary device, and the duct taped piece was an improvised explosive device.” Per the CSPD’s K9 Unit’s post on Facebook, both devices were rendered safe at th

Kansas: Narcotics Investigation Yields Improvised Explosive Device

At approximately 0600 on 6 August 2025, an improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered during a year-long transnational narcotics investigation. While executing a search warrant at a residence in the 9200 block of South Meridian — just south of Haysville, investigators discovered a possible explosive device. The Wichita Police Department’s bomb squad responded to the scene and rendered the IED safe. Multiple near-by houses were evacuated.  No additional details pertaining to the IED have been released.

California: Pipe Bomb Discovered by Hikers on Bureau of Land Management Trail

On 6 August 2025, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was requested to investigate a suspected pipe bomb that was discovered near a trail in Weaverville by Trinity County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad confirmed the pipe bomb was a viable IED and worked quickly to render it safe. TCSO deputies searched the area for additional devices with negative results. The United States Bureau of Land Management is conducting an investigation to determine the origin of the device.

New York: Delaware County Arrest: Firearms, Explosives, and Rocket Launcher Discovered

On 6 August 2025, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of an individual threatening self-harm with a firearm. Following this incident, on 8 August 2025, deputies, investigators, and an Explosive Detection K-9 unit were deployed for the search of additional firearms at the individual’s residence.  Investigators located precursors for bomb and explosive device construction, drug paraphernalia, a rocket launcher, rifle, and a homemade explosive device.

New York: Narcotics Arrest Results in Explosive Device and Bomb-Making Material Discovery

On 5 August 2025, a 34-year-old Long Island man was arrested at his home for narcotics related charges. During a search of the suspect's residence, investigators discovered five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 25 one-pound containers of smokeless gun powder, and one eight-pound container of smokeless gun powder. The Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad responded and removed the five IEDs and bomb making material.

Mississippi: 27-year-old Woman Arrested for Possession of Bomb-Making Materials and Explosive Device

On 4 August 2025, the ATF, Panola County Sheriff’s Office, Tupelo Bomb Squad and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant at the residence of a 27-year-old woman who is allegedly connected to an improvised explosive device (IED) that was emplaced on a victim's car on 20 June 2025. During the search, authorities discovered bomb-making materials along with homemade explosives, firearms, narcotics and a viable IED.

Illinois: Boyfriend of Inmate Detonates Explosive Device Behind Jail

On 2 August 2025, a Barry, Illinois suspect allegedly detonated an explosive device behind the Pike County Jail while demanding authorities release his girlfriend from jail. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an incendiary device, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal damage to government property. Additionally, the suspect was also charged with three counts of intimidation for allegedly messaging threats to harm people and detonate explosive devices through the inmate text messaging service.

Tennessee: Intoxicated Man Caught with Two Improvised Explosive Devices

On 1 August 2025 shortly after midnight, Oliver Springs Police Department officers were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store on East Tri County Boulevard in Oliver Springs. Officers found a 35-year-old suspect unconscious and partially hanging out of his car. After taking the suspect into custody, officers searched the suspect's car and discovered two homemade cylindrical explosive devices and notified the Knoxville Police Department Bomb Squad to respond and render the devices safe.

Tennessee: Police Discovered 14 IEDs During Search

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a 54-year-old man from Old Fort, threatened to kill public officials and law enforcement personnel. When deputies and detectives arrived at his home with an arrest warrant on 1 August 2025, they discovered a "smoldering" improvised explosive device (IED) inside the suspect's bedroom. Chattanooga Police Department’s Bomb Squad and ATF agents responded and found a total of 14 IEDs. The suspect later told officers he planned to ignite the explosives as officers approached the house.
