Arizona: Suspect Throws IID into Residence, Starting Blaze, 1 Arrested

On 26 February 2024, at approximately 0350 hours local time, Pima County Sheriff's Department officers responded to a residence on E. Benson Highway in Tucson for a structural fire. Rural Metro Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. According to detectives, a 53-year-old man allegedly threw an improvised incendiary device (IID) into the home while the residents were inside, initiating the blaze. No further device details were provided, and no other injuries were reported. The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted homicide and arson. The investigation is ongoing.

Alabama: Explosive Device Functions Outside AG’s Office

On 26 February 2024, around 0820 hours local time, a suspicious package was discovered outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s office in Montgomery. Special Agents from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation responded, examined the package, and determined that it was an explosive device that had functioned on 24 February. No injuries or damages were reported. No further explosives-related details were provided, and the investigation is ongoing.

Albania: IIDs, Pyrotechnics Thrown During Protest

On 20 February 2024, protestors in Tirana threw improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) and pyrotechnics at the office of the Albanian Prime Minister as part of a political demonstration. The IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, and pyrotechnics, described as flares, damaged plants by the office. According to the Albanian State Police, four individuals were arrested, and six others prosecuted while at large.

Peru: Vehicle Damaged by Explosive Device

On 21 February 2024, an explosive device emplaced under the front tire of a parked truck in Lima’s Surquillo district functioned, damaging the vehicle . Security cameras captured two individuals on a motorcycle emplacing the device. This was the second time the vehicle’s owner was targeted, following an explosive device functioning outside his business on 16 February. No further information was released. Local authorities are investigating the incident.

Mexico: 2 ATMs Damaged by IEDs in 24 Hours, 1 Arrested

On the evening of 20 February 2024, at approximately 2300 hours local time, an IED was functioned on an ATM at a bank in Tula de Allende in Hidalgo state. The explosion caused a small fire that damaged the ATM but did not affect the rest of the bank. Approximately 12 hours later, on the morning of 21 February, an explosive device was emplaced on an ATM approximately 200 meters from the first. Workers found and extinguished a small fire, and authorities recovered an IED that had failed to fully function. Three suspects were witnessed fleeing the scene of the second attack.
