On 3 January 2023, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to Park Avenue Southeast following reports of a suspicious item in an alley behind a residence. The Cedar Rapids Metro Hazardous Devices Unit was called to assist, determined the suspicious item was an IED, and removed it from the scene. No further device details have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.

Bolivia: IIDs Used to Target Police Station

On 3 January 2023, a local police station in the Brigida neighborhood in Santa Cruz was targeted with improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as Molotov cocktails, by at least five unidentified suspects who fled on motorcycles. Al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack.

Minnesota: Incendiary Device, Explosives Discovered in Residence

On 31 December 2022, at approximately 1420 hours local time, East Range Police Department officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Aurora and discovered explosives and a device described as a “homemade incendiary device.” No further details on the device or explosives have been released. The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to assist and safely removed the explosives and the device. A suspect was arrested and charged with possessing an incendiary device, possessing stolen property, and burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
