Pennsylvania: 24 IEDs Discovered in Residence, 1 Arrested

On 12 September 2024, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General agents and FBI bomb squad technicians discovered 24 IEDs, several pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine, $22,409 in cash, and illegal firearms while searching a residence on Kunkletown Road in Saylorsburg as part of a drug trafficking investigation. The IEDs were removed, and no additional device details were provided. The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team assisted with the investigation.

North Carolina: 5 Explosive Devices Discovered in Home, 1 Arrested

On 13 September 2024, Davidson County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered five unspecified explosive devices and unsecured firearms while searching a residence on the 4400 block of Holloway Church Road in Lexington after child abuse was reported at the home. Winston-Salem Bomb Squad technicians and ATF personnel responded to assist and rendered the devices safe. A 42-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon of mass death and destruction.

Missouri: Explosive Device Thrown into Vehicle, 1 Injured and 1 Arrested

On 12 September 2024, at approximately 0200 hours local time, an unspecified explosive device was thrown into a vehicle near U.S. 24 Highway and North Spring Street in Independence, injuring one person. The suspect was arrested. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Guam: IID Thrown Into Business

On 17 September 2024, at approximately 1631 hours local time, an unidentified suspect lit an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail created from a large pickle jar containing gasoline, threw it into a vape store in Barrigada, and fled the scene. The device self-extinguished before landing. On 11 September, the store’s Dededo location was also targeted after a suspect poured gasoline down the vent and ignited it with a nylon rope. The investigation is ongoing.

California: Incendiary Devices Used to Ignite Forest Fire, 1 Arrested

According to media reports published on 12 September 2024, on 10 September 2024, a 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with igniting the Line Fire, which has burned over 37,000 acres of land in San Bernardino County. Investigators determined that the suspect initially used incendiary devices in an attempt to start fires near Bacon Lane in Highland and near Baseline Street, both of which were extinguished. Based on surveillance footage captured at a site near one of the fires, authorities linked the suspect and his vehicle to the fires.

West Virginia: IEDs Found in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 10 September 2024, Upshur County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered IEDs inside a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop near Gaines Road in Rock Cave. After pulling the car over, deputies observed the driver exhibiting impaired behavior and searched the vehicle. During the search, the driver claimed that explosive devices were inside the vehicle. Deputies found and removed the explosive devices, which were described as being made from two CO2 cartridges with a green fuse protruding from the metal cartridge. No further device details have been released.

Tennessee: Possible Explosive Devices and Ammunition Discovered in Vacant Residence

On 6 September 2024, at approximately 1200 hours local time, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad technicians responded to a house on the 5600 block of Rensslaer Drive in the Raleigh-Bartlett area after a man cleaning out the house discovered four possible explosive devices inside. Bomb squad technicians removed the devices, described as cylindrical devices with fuses wrapped in gaffer’s tape, from the residence for later disposal. No further information has been released.

North Carolina: IED Found During Traffic Stop, 1 Arrested

On 8 September 2024, at approximately 1530 hours local time, Eden Police Department officers stopped a vehicle in Eden that appeared to have a fake license plate. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered drugs and an IED. The Greensboro Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Team was called to assist and removed the device. No additional device details were released. The 49-year-old male driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of a controlled substance.

Nebraska: IED Discovered in Residence Following Traffic Stop, 2 Arrested

On 8 September 2024, deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) stopped a vehicle east of Tilden and arrested the 47-year-old male driver for operating with a suspended license. While searching the vehicle, deputies discovered drug paraphernalia and stolen property. MCSO obtained a search warrant for the driver’s residence in Tilden and discovered additional drug-related items and an IED. The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Unit was called to assist and removed the unspecified IED without incident.

Missouri: IID Used in ATM Attack

On 11 September 2024, Parkville Police Department officers notified FBI agents after a suspect threw an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, at a bank ATM on Tom Watson Parkway in Parkville. Multiple windows were damaged, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
