Indiana: Pyrotechnic Device Damages “Little Library”

On 20 July 2024, at approximately 0024 hours local time, Highland Police Department officers responded to Brantwood Park after an unidentified suspect functioned a pyrotechnic device, destroying a “Little Library” book exchange stand and scattering debris and books across the surrounding area. Residents reported that two similar incidents recently occurred in the same location. No further device-related details were provided. The investigation is ongoing.

Hawaii: Brush Fire Ignited by IIDs

On 22 July 2024, at approximately 1645 hours local time, Kauai Fire Department crews and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife extinguished a brush fire in Waimea, above Panini Place. On 23 July, investigators discovered improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) near another fire on Poki'i Ridge, leading them to believe both fires were intentionally set. No injuries or structural damages were reported. In addition to these incidents, the cause of a 15 July wildfire in the nearby Hanapeepe-Kaumakani area remains under investigation.

Washington: IID Discovered on Knife-Wielding Man, 1 Arrested

On 14 July 2024, at approximately 2100 hours local time, a City of Olympia Parks employee at the intersection of Ethridge Avenue and Central Street Northeast encountered a man screaming and swinging a knife around. The man approached the employee’s vehicle and punched it and banged on the window with the knife. The employee drove away and saw the suspect go down an alleyway, which he reported to the Olympia Police Department (OPD). OPD officers responded, located the suspect in the alleyway, and arrested him after he shoved an officer.

Utah: Pyrotechnics Start House Fire, 3 Arrested

On 14 July 2024, at approximately 0130 hours local time, Layton City Fire Department Battalion crews responded to a home in the 1490 block of E 2200 N after neighbors were awakened by the sound of an explosion and observed a home quickly become engulfed by a fire. Responding firefighters, including Kaysville fire authorities and Hill Air Force Base personnel, extinguished the blaze after approximately 40 minutes. The fire destroyed the home and three vehicles parked at the property. No one was injured in the incident as the homeowner was out of town.

Tennessee: Pyrotechnic Device Thrown into Gas Station, 2 Injured

On 15 July 2024, at approximately 2200 hours local time, a suspect was caught on CCTV approaching a gas station convenience store on the 3100 block of South Perkins Road in Memphis; pulling a pyrotechnic device out of his pocket, shown in a video as a cardboard tube with a fuse; lighting it; throwing it into the store; and fleeing the scene. Two employees were injured by the explosion, and material damages were estimated to be between $4,000 and $5,000. No further device details have been released. An investigation is ongoing.

South Carolina: Pipe Bomb Discovered in Burglary Suspects’ Vehicle, 2 Arrested

On 14 July 2024, at approximately 1240 hours local time, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies responded to a home in the 6100 block of Marmalade Lane in Aiken for a report of a burglary. At the scene, ACSO deputies located a black pickup truck identified by the complainant as being involved in the burglary. Two suspects, a 44-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, were arrested. Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered what they believed to be an IED described as pipe bomb inside a backpack, as well as a “makeshift cane gun” loaded with one round.

Pennsylvania: RCIEDs Discovered after Failed FPOTUS Assassination Attempt, 3 Injured, 2 Killed

On 13 July 2024, at approximately 1815 hours local time, a 20-year-old man fired multiple shots at former president (FPOTUS) Donald Trump in an attempted assassination while FPOTUS was speaking onstage at a political rally in Butler, wounding his ear. The shooter killed one spectator and wounded two more individuals before Secret Service personnel killed him.

Pennsylvania: Pyrotechnic Device Causes Fire, 1 Arrested

On 12 July 2024, at approximately 2300 hours local time, Pennsylvania State Police troopers and Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company fire crews responded to the 120 block of North Pine Street in Langhorne for reports of a fire near an apartment building. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, which damaged a handful of trees and a lawn. Troopers discovered that a man functioning a pyrotechnic device, described as a mortar firework, ignited the fire.

Oregon: IED Functioned in Trash Bin

On 11 July 2024, at approximately 0340 hours local time, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in the 7000 block of Southeast Pleasant Home Rd after an IED was functioned in a trash bin near the road and shrapnel hit the home, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported. No further device-related details were provided. The ATF responded to assist in the ongoing investigation.

New Jersey: Man Injured by IED

On 13 July 2024, at approximately 0400 hours local time, New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad technicians and first responders from Hillsborough and neighboring towns responded to a home on 3 Bridges Road in Neshanic Station after reports of an explosion. Authorities determined the incident was an unintentional detonation caused by a man mixing explosive precursor chemicals while assembling IEDs described as homemade pyrotechnics. The man received second-degree burns but refused medical attention. No further information was released.
