Nevada: Bomb Squad Technicians Dispose of Suspected Nitroglycerin

On 18 January 2024, Winnemucca Police Department (WPD) personnel responded to a business on West Winnemucca Boulevard for a report of suspected explosive material. At the scene, WPD requested the assistance of the Elko Bomb Squad in disposing of the explosive material, suspected to be a bottle of nitroglycerin. Bomb squad technicians removed the bottle from the premises and disposed of it via a controlled detonation in a field behind the business.

Georgia: IID Found in Home, 1 Arrested

On 17 January 2024, Gordon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Pleasant Hill Road in Calhoun after receiving a report of a suspicious package. Floyd County Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and examined the device, described as an improvised incendiary device (IID), before rendering it safe. No further device details were provided. On 17 January 2024, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) deputies responded to a residence on Hot Mineral Spa Road regarding a domestic violence incident. At the scene, deputies made contact with a victim and conducted a search for a 43-year-old male suspect. While searching the property, deputies discovered military ordnance, including mortar rounds, grenades, and ground burst simulators, along with bomb-making materials (BMM), which consisted of detonating cord, blasting caps, gunpowder, unspecified explosive material, and several firearms.

While inspecting the man’s vehicle, authorities found IEDs, methamphetamines, and an unspecified weapon.

On 11 January 2024, at approximately 0709 hours local time, an explosion occurred at a home on McLain Street in Bedford. Bedford Police Department officers responded and discovered the remnants of an IED, described as a cardboard box containing a gas can with firework tubing, labeled with the Closter, New Jersey, address of a man suspected of emplacing the device. No injuries or damages were reported. The FBI searched the home of the suspect, who had been in a feud with the victim.

Montana: Man with IEDs, BMM Pleads Guilty Following Threats to Attack School

On 14 January 2024, at approximately 1100 hours local time, an individual opened the door of their vehicle to find the interior had sustained severe burn damage. Cole County Sheriff's Office deputies responded and discovered an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a glass coffee bottle containing “rags and the smell of an accelerant.” No injuries were reported. The victim identified a female suspect and stated she had been to their house on the evening of 12 January. The suspect was contacted and admitted to functioning the IID, made from rags and household cleaners.

Upon arrival, BPD officers discovered the remnants of two explosive devices and then discovered a third device that had not functioned. The BPD Bomb Squad and ATF responded to assist, removed the device from the scene, and rendered it safe. No injuries were reported, and no device details were provided.
