United Kingdom: IIDs Thrown at Police During Protest

On 10 April 2023, masked suspects attacked a police vehicle and officers in Northern Ireland with 20 improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as petrol bombs, during a parade opposing the Good Friday peace accord in Londonderry by members of a nationalist group, “Dissident Republicans.” No further device details have been released and no injuries have been reported. Colorado: Ordnance Discovered in Backyard Shed

On 8 April 2023, at approximately 1425 hours local time, Colorado Springs Police Department officers responded to a residence on Delaware Drive after the new homeowner discovered military ordnance, described as a 40 mm training round, as they were cleaning the backyard shed of the home. No further device details have been released. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians responded and removed the ordnance from the scene.

Ecuador: Explosive Device Discovered in Vehicle

On 6 April 2023, at approximately 2100 hours local time, the National Police of Ecuador responded to a gas station near a passenger terminal in Quitumbe after reports of a vehicle that had possible explosive devices inside. Responding officers discovered 20 explosive plugs attached with tape to a gas cylinder inside the vehicle. The Intervention and Rescue Group responded to assist and conducted render safe procedures. No further device details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Italy: Explosives Used in ATM Attack

On 8 April 2023, at approximately 0200 hours local time, four unknown suspects used explosives to attack a bank ATM in Migliarino, before fleeing the scene with an unknown amount of cash. According to media reporting, the suspects used the “marmot technique,” where up to 500 grams of gunpowder or black powder is inserted into a metal container connected to a fuse, and inserted into a slot drilled into the ATM before it is detonated. No additional details on the explosives have been released. The investigation is ongoing.

New York: IID Thrown at Individual, 1 Arrested

On 4 April 2023, a suspect threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, at an individual and attempted to set the individual on fire. No further device or incident details have been released. On 5 April, Jamestown Police Department officers attempted to conduct a warrant check at the 33-year-old male suspect’s residence on Winsor Street, but the suspect fled and was later arrested. The suspect is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault, among other charges.
