Monday, May 22, 2023 - 14:41TRIPwire, 22 May 2023 On 21 May 2023, at approximately 1300 hours local time, Kingston Police Department officers and Kingston Fire Department crews responded to a residence on Nobadeer Circle following a loud explosion that left one man severely injured. Investigators determined that the man was manufacturing pyrotechnics in the basement of the home. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, FBI investigators, and a hazmat crew also responded to the scene after police discovered bomb-making material (BMM), described as “materials/powders consistent with bomb-making” inside the residence. No further details on the BMM were released, and no other injuries were reported. The BMM was collected and rendered safe. The residence also sustained some damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Upon arrival, GCPD officers took the suspect into custody and located the devices. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded to assist, x-rayed the devices, and removed them from the scene. No further device details were provided. The male suspect was arrested and is awaiting charges. The investigation is ongoing.

The driver threw an object, which was later located and identified as an improvised incendiary device (IID) described as a Molotov cocktail, from the vehicle’s window before pulling over. Further investigation revealed the suspect was involved in a domestic disturbance at the residence of an acquaintance in the area. According to authorities, the suspect filled a plastic water bottle with gasoline from a gas can that was stored on the property; added items to create a “wick,” and made the IID that he planned to toss onto the property, where he had recently poured gasoline. The suspect was arrested and charged with discharging/placing a destructive device, among other charges.

Thursday, May 18, 2023 - 14:59TRIPwire, 18 May 2023 On 17 April 2023, Burleson Police Department officers and FBI and ATF agents conducted a search of a residence on the 700 block of Pecan Street as part of an investigation into the suspect’s alleged posts of images of IEDs. Authorities later received a tip that the suspect had detonated an IED in a residential neighborhood, and further investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly searched on how to make “pipe bombs” and “propane bombs.” The search of the residence revealed bomb-making material (BMM), described as “a brown shoe box” containing a glass jar filled with metal BBs and lead, marked as “frag,” and a white plastic container filled with 659.2 grams of explosive powder near the box. No further details about the BMM have been released. According to authorities, the suspect purchased two pounds of potassium perchlorate, one pound of aluminum powder and a striped fuse online. Authorities also found a handwritten manifesto that “glorified the Columbine shooters and espoused white supremacy.” The 22-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a destructive device, prohibited weapons, possession of components of explosives, and deadly conduct.
