Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - 17:01TRIPwire, 17 May 2023 On 12 May 2023, at approximately 1852 hours local time, Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) officers discovered bomb-making material (BMM) described as containers of a crystalline substance and a bag containing a yellow cord connected to a silver blasting cap inside a vehicle following a traffic stop on Asher Avenue. Little Rock Fire Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and identified the BMM as ammonium nitrate and nitro methane connected to a commercial grade blasting cap and conducted rendered safe procedures. The two vehicle occupants were arrested on an unrelated offense. LRPD officers identified the BMM owner and arrested the 42-year-old male suspect at approximately 2150 hours in a motel on Fair Park Avenue, where they also discovered a gun and narcotics in the room. The suspect was charged with committing criminal acts involving explosives, among other charges.

One of the suspects placed a device on the ATM and all three fled when the device exploded. The explosion damaged the ATM’s front part, but the ATM’s safe was intact and the suspects were unsuccessful in accessing any money. According to media reporting, an explosive device was found at the scene, but no further device details have been released. No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
