Missouri: IED Discovered in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 9 April 2024, a Saline County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to a truck stop in Sweet Springs after receiving reports of an individual impersonating law enforcement and soliciting money. A 42-year-old male suspect was detained at the scene and identified as holding an outstanding warrant for stalking charges in Colorado. Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle, authorities discovered an IED described as resembling a pipe bomb, a loaded firearm, various blades, and methamphetamine. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to assist. No further details were released.

Massachusetts: IIDs Thrown into Home, 1 Arrested

On the afternoon of 16 April 2024, an arson incident was reported in the 20 block of West Main Street in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood. A male suspect broke the front window of a home while a woman was inside and set a small fire. The suspect, who was known to the victim, then broke a window in the rear of the home and threw in two improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as two plastic bottles containing an accelerant inside of a shopping bag. The fire caused material damages but did not spread to any neighboring housing units.

Massachusetts: BMM and Drugs Found in Home, 1 Arrested

On 8 April 2024, at approximately 1030 hours local time, Chatham Police Department officers and Fire Department personnel responded to a home in the 1600 block of Main Street for a welfare check, where they discovered the remains of a man and woman believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and an overdose, respectively. Police also made contact with a 43-year-old male resident who was found sleeping in an upstairs bedroom and removed him from the residence.

Florida: Man Threatens Florida DOT Building with "Bomb,” 1 Dead

On 17 April 2024, at approximately 1530 hours local time, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) staff received a phone call from a man in the parking lot of FDOT’s Tampa office on McKinley Drive, claiming he had a bomb and intended to drive his vehicle into the building to harm people. Tampa Police Department (TPD) officers responded to the scene, where they located the suspect inside a vehicle in the parking lot. As officers approached the vehicle to speak to the man, the suspect shot himself and died at the scene.

United Kingdom: IED Emplaced in Mailbox Rendered Safe

On 16 April 2024, at approximately 1610 hours local time, Greater Manchester Police; fire crews from Eccles, Agecroft, Leight, and Salford fire stations; and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a residence in Eccles in Greater Manchester, England, for reports of a suspicious device posted through a mailbox. EOD technicians determined the device was viable after a thorough investigation of the object and performed a controlled detonation of the device. No further information was released.

Germany: Explosive Device Functions Outside ATM

On 16 April 2024, at approximately 0230 hours local time, multiple perpetrators functioned an explosive device outside an ATM in Hauptstuhl. The explosion significantly damaged the ATM, and the suspects fled the scene in a car. Police responded to the scene, where they found an additional explosive device that had not functioned. Emergency services rendered the device safe at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Colombia: Explosive Device Functioned in Neighborhood, 1 Killed

On 12 April 2024, at approximately 2230 hours local time, an explosive device functioned in Ocaña, department of Norte de Santander. A 25-year-old man was injured by the blast and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Local law enforcement speculated that the device may have been intended to destroy a surveillance camera in the area. Law enforcement further stated that an unknown male subject was seen bringing the explosive device into the area in which it functioned. No further device details were released. An investigation is ongoing.

North Carolina: 2 Explosive Devices Found at Residence Near Schools, 1 Arrested

On 7 April 2024, at approximately 2120 hours local time, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Fowler Hill Road for reports of stolen property and discovered an explosive device. Due to their proximity to the residence, several nearby schools announced closures. The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad conducted a sweep of the residence the following morning, discovered an additional live explosive device at the home, and rendered both devices safe.

Michigan: Pipe Bomb Discovered Inside Vehicle, 2 Arrested

On 9 April 2024, at approximately 1730 hours local time, Michigan State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop near Hickory in Prairieville Township and discovered a pipe bomb while searching the vehicle. Michigan State Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and removed the device for safe disposal. Two men were arrested on previous outstanding warrants.
