On 1 January 2024, Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) deputies responded to a home on Bellezza Way in Fort Myers after receiving a call from the resident that his neighbor had overdosed in his driveway. During a search of the caller’s residence, deputies discovered a pyrotechnic device described as a railroad torpedo and bomb-making material (BMM), including hand grenade bodies, mercury switches, and two brown rectangular pieces of suspected explosives labeled "Dangerous Explosive.” The LCSO Bomb Squad responded to assist and removed the BMM from the scene.
